Every Tribe and Tongue

Randy Huett   -

I was thinking after last Sunday’s sermon in our “Faith in Real Life” series about the kind of church/community we want to be. And I was struck at just how diverse our community is becoming. We do have a good mix of young and old. I think that is good. I think if you are old, you need to be around some young people to help you have greater vision and not focus on the past and I think if you are young, you need to be around old people because they have the wisdom of experience. Experience comes from making mistakes. I have a lot of experience!

We are also ethnically diverse. If you have been around a while you know this has been one of my heart’s desires for years and years. And now we are more diverse than ever. We have people who are a part of LCC from all over the world. Of course we have a lot of folks who originate from Mexico, but we also have people from Guatemala, Honduras, Columbia, Panama and even an elder from Argentina. LCC is made up of people from all over Central and South America. From the African continent, we have attendees from Ghana and Sierra Leone. That’s all I know for sure, there are probably more. We have people from the Philippines and from India. We even have a few from Europe. Why am I excited about that? Because that is what our community looks like that surrounds LCC and because that is what heaven looks like.

Revelation 5:9–10 (NASB95)
9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. 10 “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.”

There is a place for every tribe and tongue and people and nation at the foot of the cross. Jesus is calling all nations to himself and into His community. That’s the kind of community we want to be. That is the kind of community I want to be a part of.

I love you.
