DAY 04.

Tim Sewalt   -

DEPEND ON HIM FOR EVERYTHING

“…GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD…”

God promises to supply all our needs, and He wants us to trust Him to provide.

I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made Heaven and earth!
PSALM 121:1-2 NLT

When we started with Day 1, we saw how Jesus told His disciples that God knows exactly what we need even before we ask. So why do we need to ask? We ask and communicate with God as a way of laying our needs before Him. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:25-27:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
MATTHEW 6:25-27 NIV

So, whats up with that? If God knows what I need why do I ask. Then Jesus tells me not to worry. Has anyone telling you not to worry helped you not worry? Yeah right!? Jesus knows all of our needs and how we think about them. Its hard not to think of the needs we have. But Jesus is telling us to instead of worrying about them in your head and winding yourself up, process them before the Lord. Process those needs and feelings in a safe place before your Father, that not only knows what you need but understands how you feel about them. This will help you resist the hopeless feeling of being alone to figure out your problems yourself.

Ask God for what you need today. Bring your requests to Him, and trust Him enough to hand them over to Him fully. It may help to open your hands before God to physically show your surrender to Him. Problems can either be ours or God’s; they can’t be both.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
PHILLIPPIANS 4:6-7 NIV

PRAY THIS:
Father, you know my every need. I confess that you made me, you know me, you have provided for me and I have not made it to today without your loving care. I bring my needs before you, because you are my loving Father. While my needs are ever present in my mind, I trust you with them. I lay them before you. I give you my feelings about them. I reject worry and I confess that because I belong to you, my problems are your problems and you are always working for my good. Amen.
