DAY 06.
ENGAGE IN SPIRITUAL WARFARE
“…AND DO NOT LEAD US INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM THE EVIL ONE…”
The Bible makes it clear that we have an enemy who is trying to steal from us, kill us, and destroy us. As we pray, we take our stand against the enemy and fight from a place of victory through Jesus as we’re empowered by His Holy Spirit. There is power in God’s Word, and every lie the enemy has told us can be replaced with God’s truth.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
EPHESIANS 6:12 NIV
Ask God to show you any lies you’re believing or spiritual warfare happening in your life, expose the enemy, and help you understand and receive His truth. The enemy is always fishing, but he has no new schemes. He wants you to think you’re alone, God has abandoned you and no one understands you. God’s truth is what we can hold onto to fight back. Paul encourages the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 10:13:
‘The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. ‘
1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
Just speaking the name of Jesus has great power in the spiritual realm. The Bible tells us in James 4:7 that if we resist the devil, he will flee from us. But this doesn’t mean resisting through will power and grit. To resist the devil, means to submit to God and what He says.. about everything. Thats exactly how Jesus taught us to fight the devil in Matthew 4:3-11! To be equipped to fight we have to know God’s word. Through prayer and holding onto God’s truth, we can resist the enemy and walk forward in freedom.
‘Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him. And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. ‘
James 4:5-8 NLT
‘During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’ ” Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’ ” Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ ” Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus. ‘
Matthew 4:3-11 NLT
PRAY THIS:
Father, give me your grace to overcome the temptation in my life. I know it’s coming. It’s not if, but when. So I ask you to make me ready. Help me to be disciplined in knowing your truth. Bring your promises to my memory when I am attacked by lies. Give me the clarity in the moment to run to you and remember that I am a new creation now. I’m different and I have victory over these things in Jesus’ awesome name. Amen.
