DAY 08.

Tim Sewalt   -

GOD, OUR FATHER

“OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN…”

Its day 8 of our 3 weeks of prayer and fasting. Today we are starting the Lord’s Prayer all over again, but this time we are focusing on what God wants to do through us in our families.

When we started on day one, we prayed “Our Father” like Jesus. Jesus starts with this because He wants us to know that God is a God who is relational. Whats more telling about the nature of God than Jesus saying “ He’s a Father”? Our life with Him is all about relationship. Relationship is the way that God chooses to move in our lives and our world. 1 JOHN 4:8 tells us that God is love. If you think about it, love only exists because of relationship. God is relational, and He made us for relationship.

The foundational relationships that God uses to create life is the family. We say at LCC, that we don’t just pastor people, but we pastor families. We pastor families, because that is the primary way God has used to bring about His will on the earth. Think about this: God gave His only Son, to make us His children. To make that happen, God used the family of Abraham to write His story of redemption for the world through Jesus.

‘The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” ‘
Genesis 12:1-3 NLT

God wants to accomplish His will through you and your family. Through your family He wants to continue to bless your world with the message of Jesus.

So, take time today to acknowledge all the love and richness that you have received, because God is your Father, but then think about when you say “our Father.” He’s the loving father of your family. Everything that you enjoy as a child, He wants the people in your family to experience. Ask God help you to show your family what our Heavenly Father is like. Ask the Father for His presence to be with you today so that your family can see His goodness.

Write down a few of your family’s names to pray specifically for this week. Pray for them as His children who He dearly loves, has dreams for, has hopes for and has a calling for.

PRAY THIS:
Father, I thank you that you are my Father. I thank you for my family. I thank you that you are our father and everything I have and enjoy with you, you desire for them. Thank you for making me a part of your family, use me and my family to spread your incredible love on this earth. Amen.
