What makes Life Community Church, Life Community Church? Well we wanted the atmosphere of LCC to be casual. Several years ago I heard people repeatedly say, “I don’t have anything to wear to church.” Church was button up, dressed up, starched up and uncomfortable.

We didn’t want to be like that. We wanted to be a place where you don’t have to dress a certain way to fit in. We take God seriously, but don’t take ourselves too seriously. We are free to laugh and enjoy life as only followers of Christ can.

Through the years we found that people had a perception of church that you had to dress up to fit in. If you didn’t have nice clothes then you couldn’t come to church. To us, that was an unnecessary emphasis on externals. When I was growing up (as the earth was cooling), men with long hair were not welcome.

The list goes on and on, beards or tattoos, open toed shoes or different colored hair. If you really loved Jesus you are going to “look your best for God”, we are told. I know people who went into churches and were told they were not welcomed because of the way they were dressed.

What about people who don’t know God yet?  We would never want to erect unnecessary and certainly unbiblical barriers that kept people from coming to know Christ. To put on our best for Jesus is to put on LOVE. To love people where they are, not where we think they need to be based on our preferences. To love people the way Jesus does.

I love you too,
Pastor Randy
